BLINDED

He staggers into the intense morning sunlight

Hands reach out to touch

Small, careful steps taken

As both far and near are hard to see,

Eyes seem blurred

Just as constant deceit grips the mind

Thoughts are scattered

Confusion races about

While hunger pangs

And thirst burns in the throat,

The mouth screams out finally-

"What is real?"

"What is true?"

At last he stumbles and falls

He crawls and feels his way desperately as groans of others are heard,

So many already given up!

Old thoughts of youthful prayers echo within

To a God who should be

But is not,

Lost forever

As the end has already drawn near

Lies of darkness have swallowed us whole;

Only the gates of Hades now wait!
